How We Got Started
How We Got Started
The vision of His Hands, His Feet, His Hugs was birthed after a season of prayer to be an extension of the compassion of Christ through intercession, outreach, and action. Jesus then placed a burning passion in our hearts for reaching out to those dealing with heart disease and cancer.
The motivation for focusing on those specific needs was inspired by two very special women in the life of our Founder and Executive Director, Sherry Chaquette: her mother Willie Jean Johnson and also a childhood friend. Willie Jean was not only a devout Woman of God but also an Intercessory Prayer Warrior. She succumbed to congestive heart failure in March of 2004.
Sherry’s friend since the second grade fought a lengthy battle with breast cancer before passing in August of 2018. The years of love and support included prayer, fasting, intercession, anointing, and communion.
While both were taken from us way too soon, their memories are forever alive in our hearts. In their memory, His Hands, His Feet, His Hugs was established in January of 2019 in the Joplin, Missouri area.
It is our firm belief that every diagnosis is NOT a death sentence! We have seen miraculous healings and extended compassion and comfort to those that grieve the loss of loved ones during times of bereavement. Our outreach began with visitations, sending cards of encouragement, and providing families with meals and financial support.
Sherry began a Women's Fellowship Bible Study in our home. After attendance increased, the monthly gatherings graduated to the Joplin Public Library. When the COVID-19 pandemic hit early this year and closed non-essential public locations, we pivoted to social media and continued to host the Women's Fellowship on Facebook Live.
During the pandemic, Sherry was led to growing our social media presence and added weekly intercessory prayer sessions every Tuesday evening, taking prayer requests and providing inspiring scriptures also broadcast via Facebook Live.
Jesus is a Healer and still performs miracles. By His Grace, we have humbly positioned ourselves to be His Hands, His Feet, His Hugs!
